Don’t miss out on Triple Savings; offer ends Aug.18

Member-owners are encouraged to sign up for the Roanoke Electric Cooperative's Roanoke Connect Triple Savings offer, before the money and energy-saving promotion ends, Aug. 18, 2018.

Triple Savings offers three great ways for a member-owner to save money and energy with broadband internet service and installation of smart thermostats and water heater control devices.  It comes with the following:

Segment 0021 Live and Ready for Installation Scheduling

7:08pm December 8, 2018

More good news as the build-out of the Roanoke Connect fiber optic network continues. Segment 0021 is the latest piece of the Roanoke Connect system to become operational, and installation scheduling to bring broadband internet and Smart Grid services to subscribers is under way.

Segment 0021 consists of Hart Swamp Rd., Hwy 308 and Blake Dr., all in Rich Square.

Meanwhile, development of Segment 0025 – one of the largest system segments – is significantly advanced and nearing completion.

With cold weather upon us, the energy savings achievable through the Roanoke Connect technology now can be maximized by subscribers benefiting from their ecobee3 smart thermostats and water heater thermostat control devices.

Stay warm and save money, and let Roanoke Connect help you do it.

Two More Segments Expected to Go Live in Coming Weeks

1:40pm November 15, 2018

One more thing to look forward to over the holidays! Roanoke Connect’s broadband services should soon be functional and ready for installation scheduling in another two segments.

We are nearing the finish line on development on one of the largest system segments to date – Segment 0025 – and work is progressing nicely on Segment 0021 as well. Segment 0025 consists of Taylor Mill Rd., Hwy 137, Hwy 13, Barfield Rd., Hunter Lane, and Little Island Rd., all located in Eure. Segment 0021 consists of Hart Swamp Rd., Hwy 308 and Blake Dr., all in Rich Square.

We don’t yet have exact dates on when these next two segments will be live, but we will post the news as soon as we’re able to tell you. With winter approaching, we look forward to the opportunity to bring SmartGrid energy efficiencies and Internet service to you through the Roanoke Connect program.

Stay tuned, and Happy Holidays!

Another Segment Added as Broadband Network Shows Its Robustness

3:16pm October 12, 2018

Another piece of the Roanoke Connect puzzle has been put into place and is ready for the scheduling of home installations. Segment 0010 is the eighth segment in the network that is now functional. It covers NC Hwy 125, Sykes Lane and Old 125 Road in Halifax, North Carolina.

The continued progress on the Roanoke Connect network comes despite the massive storms that have tested the system's robustness. The ability of Roanoke Electric's wireless network to withstand extreme weather conditions has been demonstrated during Hurricane Florence and Tropical Storm Michael. Despite the wind and rain, broadband Internet service to subscribers remained in place with virtually no downtime throughout both storms and was restored quickly in the few instances when interruptions occurred.

Call or email us to schedule installation so you can join other subscribers benefiting from Smart Grid energy savings and broadband Internet services.

Network Expansion Continues Despite Hurricane Florence

4:14pm September 28, 2018

Only temporarily slowed by Hurricane Florence, we continue to expand the Roanoke Connect network to make Smart Grid and Internet services available to Roanoke Electric Cooperative's Member-Owners. We are pleased to report that Segment 0024 is the seventh segment that is now functional and for which we are scheduling home installations. Segment 0024 covers Hill Lane Road in Eure and sections of US Hwy 13 S and Corner High Road. It joins Segments 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 and 9 as live and capable of helping you lower your energy bills and increase your connectivity. We've got work on additional segments under way, so stay tuned for new updates in the weeks ahead.

Two New Segments Are On-Line; More to Come

12:46pm August 30, 2018

New segments (0008 and 0009) are on-line with more to come.

  • Segment 0008 location: WJ Duke Service Road, Bryantown Road in Jackson, NC
  • Segment 0009 location: Bryantown Road, Hillside Drive, Meadow Drive in Rich Square, NC

By the end of 2018, the Roanoke Electric Smart Grid program will be available to more than 1,000 member-owner households!  This innovative program has the potential reduce your electric bill and help your cooperative combat the ever-increasing cost of electricity.

Wow, what response!

2:31pm September 22, 2016

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to submit responses for the CrowdFiber campaign in August! Our campaign participation numbers are quickly rising, and Northampton County has already reached its goal! Now it's your turn Bertie, Gates, Halifax and Hertford. Your input is crucial to helping formulate the RoanokeConnect plans for moving forward. We'll also continue taking additional input from Northampton, so your voices will still be heard.

Let’s keep this going!

Any more updates other than the 2 to 3 year completion time frame? I work remote and must have access to the Company's VPN access. I purchased a home on Coniotte RD in Windsor without checking for internet service in the area(oversight on my part) over year ago but unable to completely move in with no internet connection. The company that I work for, Frontier Communications is located in Allen, TX so I can not move in and just drive to work. I would appreciate any other updates that you can give.

I would like to know since i have purchased a wifi thermostat 2 years ago on my own , shouldn't I receive the same benefit as others who get it from the co-op? I also replaced my water heater with a energy saving unit compatible with wifi, so what if any are my benefits from the co-op?

Broadband fiber in rural NC is a game changer! Opens up all kinds of possibilities for small businesses and in homes. I'm sure my grandfather in Como, NC felt a similar surge of enthusiasm when electricity came out to his farm in 1947 from this very same Cooperative. I applaud REC for their forward thinking and energy in getting this initiative done.

I too, never saw a slip in my bill regarding this.A friend of mine told me about it last week.I am hopeful that this will change the internet situation I have on my road.Guess I'll have to go door to door and let my neighbors know about it.We need to get this done!

It's great to see steps toward expanding broadband in our rual area. Demand will explode from the generation becoming young adults seeking vitality in Eastern North Carolina. There's no doubt in my mind of the need. Keep going, you've got my support.

Thank you for considering broadband in Bertie County. Unfortunately, many of my neighbors don't have internet to take the survey. I doubt they even know about it. This does not mean these Members don't want internet, simply that they don't want tied to a satellite contract. Without access to internet, they can't take your survey. A letter with a paper response would be a more effective way to reach people without internet in rural parts of your area.

Roanoke Connect - Wilbur Daniels

12:16pm August 10, 2016

I also agree with Terry and john. I read the slip but could not connect to roanoke.crowd fiber.com. A customer service rep. at the co-op advised me to go through the co-op website and click on Roanoke connect. Everyone needs to know how to access the survey.

Roanoke Connect - Terry Hairston

I agree with John L. I never saw the slip, just happened across it and now I am sharing with friends and neighbors. I actually had to complete this at work, because the connection at my house was not able to stay connected long enough to complete the survey.

Roanoke Connect - John L

12:59pm June 11, 2016

You will need to do more than insert a slip of paper in with our bills about this campaign as many probably didn't read it. I would suggest a separate mailing explaining this program, making sure everyone knows it is a possibility we can make happen. Please consider this ! Thanks
